Sun Deli. Mmmm Sun Deli. I don't even know where to begin. There's so many great things abouts Sun Deli. MK and I first met at Sun Deli, which makes it special enough, but there's more. To start, Sun Deli is an actual deli; like, they actually sell meats and cheeses, and damn good meats and cheeses at that. The people who work there remember your name after the second or third time you stop in, and your order after the fourth or fifth. MK and I have been there dozens of times, so they even know what days and times we usually come in. Seriously good people - making seriously good food.
Everyday there's a special. Probably the most common (and popular) special is what they call the "Question Mark?". When you order the Question Mark, you get exactly that: you have no idea. The chef that day decides what you get when you order the "?". Pretty much always, its super good. You could get a sandwich with egg salad, salami, and fritos on wheat bread. You could get a sandwich with prosciutto, turkey, and black olives and pepper. None of that may sound like something you'd want to order, but let me tell you, you're probably wrong. Its delicious. The locals know to never be picky on the Question Mark and ask for some exclusions, but they'll do it. You'll never know what to expect, but always expect it to be good.
The turkey club sub is about 3/4 of the way down the menu. Like I said before, the meats are super good, and the cheeses, too. But what makes this sandwich absolutely killer, is the bacon. To no surprise, bacon is good on everything. Not only that, but the guy who makes the sandwiches knows exactly how much of each of your "extras" you need; just enough mayo and italian dressing to go with your lettuce and black olives to go with your turkey, bacon, and cheese.
Like any good "local" spot, there's a secret menu. I won't tell you whats on the secret menu. I'll tell you its good. But its a secret. So go in and find out for yourself. Regardless, they'll pretty much make you anything. They're awesome.
So, next time you're in Jax Beach, and the sun's beating down on you, step into Sun Deli and get yourself some cold, just-sweet-enough sweet tea, a killer sub, and some chips. Or grab a birthday card, because they sell those, too, for some reason. Tell Mark MK sent you. But don't take our table. Its the one second from the wall in the second row from the window. Its ours.
